Last month, my friend Neel Shah left his job at the New York Post’s “Page Six” and moved to LA to write for a network sitcom. Neel’s new gig marked not only the end of his time in New York, but the end of a year-long fascination with the management style of his boss’ boss’ boss, Rupert Murdoch….
Prediction: Apple’s going to announce that anyone who has purchased an iPhone 4 can bring it into an Apple Store for a free bumper case.
Sheesh, another dead Seagate drive. That brings it to a 50% failure rate for these dozen 9 month old 1TB drives.

Saw an employee at one store I’m used to seeing at another. Turns out she works 3 jobs often all in a 24hr period. Holy hell.
I always used to scoff at haml. Now that i’ve gotten used to using it I shudder at having to deal with raw html.

Run Thinking Sphinx as a specific user via...
Thinking Sphinx comes with some very convenient capistrano tasks. We run each of our apps with their own daemon account which we also want the sphinx process to run under. By default the capistrano tasks will run sphinx under your user account. One easy solution is to define the following in your Capfile (or config/deploy.rb):
set :rake, "sudo -u sphinx_user rake"

I get an increasingly scary amount of personal info sent to my gmail account from people who think they’re contacting some other btucker.
